Stan Grant Resigns from Monash's Media Integrity Unit - Coincidental?

In a recent post we looked at the writings and speeches of the well known and respected Australian journalist, presenter, speaker and author, Stan Grant.

Very surprisingly, we appeared to have discovered some errors in Stan’s popular books. If these errors were simple mistakes, one could put them down to inadvertent misinformation. However, if these errors were known to be incorrect, or even fabricated, then many would think that Stan risked being accused of the more serious charge of disinformation.

Stan Grant’s high profile and his respected position in the media within Australia and internationally saw him, in August 2023, being appointed to spearhead Monash University’s inaugural centre for rebuilding media integrity.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Katie Stevenson, welcomed Professor Grant’s appointment, building on the University’s commitment to fostering greater integrity in journalism while countering misinformation in the media. - Monash Media Release

Thus, when we discovered the errors in two of Stan’s published books we thought it important to write to Stan and Monash University [and cc’d to Stan’s publisher, HarperCollins] to seek further clarification given the stress that Monash were placing on the need for more integrity within Australia’s media landscape.

Our letter, sent by email on 28 January 2024, is shown below. To date, we have not received any acknowledgment from Monash University, Stan, or his publisher, HarperCollins.

However, on 11 March 2024 we learnt that Stan Grant had unexpectedly resigned from his new post at Monash University, with no detailed explanation being given. All that the public was told was that,

'Grant has made the difficult decision to step down from his role at the Constructive Institute Asia Pacific in the Faculty of Arts, a mission he remains passionately committed to. He will now focus on himself, his family and explore ways to support his community on country.’ - DailyMail

It could be a total coincidence that our letter lobbed onto the desk of Monash’s Media manager about one month ago - but then again maybe it wasn’t?
