Is Dan Andrews Running with a 'Fake Aborigine' this Election? - We Shall See
A furore is developing prior to the Victorian State election, due on November 26, regarding Labor's candidate for the crucial marginal seat of Richmond, Lauren O’Dwyer.
O’Dywer has hit out at public questioning of her claim to Yorta Yorta heritage, including from members of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria. An online campaign, largely led by Aboriginal people, has built over the past week, questioning both O’Dwyer’s Aboriginality and her ties to the Yorta Yorta community. (Source: The Age)
Dark Emu Exposed has begun some investigating into the ancestry of Lauren O’Dwyer - maybe she really is of Aboriginal descent, maybe she isn’t, only the records can independently confirm this to the voter’s satisfaction.
We note that O’Dwyer herself has not produced any ancestry documents that independently prove her Aboriginal descent. She claims her great-grandfather was Aboriginal - all she has to do then is publish his documents confirming this and the case is settled, but she hasn’t, won’t or can’t.
Interestingly, today Lauren O’Dwyer, whose family hails from Echuca, describes herself as a proud Yorta Yorta woman, tracing her ancestry to her great-grandfather.
However, only a few years ago she merely described herself as a, ‘proud country kid from Yorta Yorta land’ - not quite the same, but then, is that what she means when she now claims,
“I know who I am, and I’m proud of who I am,” O’Dwyer told The Age. “I’ve never misrepresented or over-represented my heritage. I’ll always be learning.
“And there are many fair-skinned Aboriginal people in this country that will for the rest of their lives be learning more and more about their identities.”? - Source
Let’s hope the genealogists at Dark Emu Exposed can help Lauren with her ‘learning.’
