Correspondence between Queen Victoria and the Aborigines of Victoria

In 1863 a group of the Upper Yarra Aboriginal people sent a present to Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, on the occasion of her birthday.

A note of thanks from the Queens secretary was subsequently sent to the governor of Victoria, Sir Charles Henry Darling, requesting him to express to the natives her “satisfaction” at this display of such “assurannces of their attachment and loyalty,”

The letter in beautiful script is easily read below without transcription.
